Gouger Street

A map showing the location of Gouger Street

Gouger Street borders the southern side of the famous Central Market and hosts a wide range of restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world including French, Japanese, Argentinean, Malaysian, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Korean and Thai. Gouger Street also inhabits the entrance to Chinatown, marked by an imposing gateway with large white concrete lions is a maze of Oriental-style restaurants, food courts and shops.

The buzz of the adjoining Adelaide Central Market permeates Gouger Street, making the strip a colourful hive of activity, with a distinct Asian flavour. While Asian cuisine is the most popular along this main street there are many other customer favourites including San Churro, Concubine, BTS, Krispy Kremes and seafood choices. Field Street and Compton Street are developing side streets offering organic cuisine.

The Asian feel is also evident in the number of banks displaying both Asian and English language signs on their windows, as well as the number of locals flicking through Asian-language newspapers while sipping green tea.
